Zauderer argues that results of a new study — mapping out the tumor microenvironment in mesothelioma to identify features that could be exploited as targets for treatment — further support the need to focus future research on identifying predicting biomarkers for new therapies. Read more | | |  | Since 2008, the Department of Defense has funded mesothelioma research through its Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program – more specifically, through the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). All mechanisms of funding within the PRCRP are now open and accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2021, which was appropriated $115,000,000 toward 20 topic areas, including mesothelioma. | | | | | | | | Patient Travel Grant Program — Financial Assistance The Patient Travel Grant Program, founded by Mary and Bob Cosentino, was created to provide mesothelioma patients with financial assistance to travel and be seen by an appropriate mesothelioma expert, regardless of their ability to pay. The Foundation will cover travel expenses incurred by the patient plus one caregiver who travels with them for lodging/hotel room; gasoline; airplane, bus, and/or train tickets; and cab, Uber, Lyft, metro, or other analogous services. To qualify for this program, a patient must fall into at least one of these two categories: - Traveling for an initial consultation with a mesothelioma expert
- Grant amount: Up-to $1,000
- Be enrolled in a clinical trial — found on clinicaltrials.gov
- Grant amount: Up-to $6,000, disbursed in amounts of up-to $1,000 throughout the course of the clinical trial
